Our client is seeking a skilled and dependable Heavy Plant Equipment Mechanic to join the team at the Mwache Dam Project and other active sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that heavy construction machinery—including dump trucks, excavators, rollers, and related equipment—is well-maintained, safe, and operating at peak efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, servicing, and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment.

  • Diagnose and repair faults in engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and brakes.

  • Troubleshoot minor electrical issues and escalate complex cases to specialists.

  • Collaborate with operators and laborers to carry out maintenance tasks such as greasing and tire repairs.

  • Replace worn or defective parts, ensuring machinery reliability and safety.

  • Keep accurate records of maintenance work and spare parts used.

  • Monitor spare parts inventory and advise on procurement needs.

  • Submit maintenance reports and recommend upgrades or replacements where necessary.

  • Adhere to strict safety standards, ensuring proper handling of tools, parts, and lubricants.

Requirements

  • Diploma/Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related field.

  • At least 5 years’ proven hands-on experience in servicing and repairing heavy plant machinery (MANDATORY).

  • Strong technical expertise in diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, and mechanical systems.

  • Basic electrical knowledge for diagnosing and resolving minor equipment faults.

  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools, manuals, and workshop equipment.

  • Physically fit, reliable, and able to work in challenging outdoor site conditions.

  • Valid driver’s license and relevant technical certifications.
